Early Native American Sterling Silver Lizard Brooch

Navajo handmade sterling silver lizard/alligator? pin is unmarked and tests as sterling, and features two faceted red stones as eyes.  I think maybe the end of the tail is broken off, but I'm not sure.  It measures about 1 3/4 inches by about 3/4 inch wide and it weighs 9.1 grams.
