Start a Vintage Jewelry Collection

If there is a particular form of jewelry you favor (mine is bracelets) consider starting a vintage jewelry collection.  Vintage jewelry is generally better made than its modern equivalent and can have a more unique and interesting aesthetic.  Your collection can be as expensive or as affordable as you desire so don't be under the impression that jewelry collection has to be complicated or high end.  Flea markets, auctions, garage sales and online auctions are great ways to pick up vintage jewelry at affordable prices.  And at any rate, the treasure hunt is half of the allure!

Bangle bracelets are classic and will never go out of style and the stacking patterned 1940's era bracelets below look fabulous in any arrangement.  These particular bracelets are all vintage Danecraft bracelets.  Danecraft is a company started in 1934 in Rhode Island by an Italian immigrant well known for making quality jewelry.  The family owned company is still in operation and vintage Danecraft jewelry is very collectible.

Native American jewelry is widely collected even internationally.  Since it is all handmade, it is one of a kind jewelry that will continue to hold its value.  Different tribes have different styles and the earrings below show Zuni earrings as the top two, Navajo as the bottom two, and the two pair on the right are Hopi.  The Zuni are known for precision cut stones and intricate inlay work, while Navajo jewelry is known for hand stamped work on silver.  Hopi use a technique called silver overlay that make images pop.

Brooches or pins are fun to collect because they have multiple uses.  Aside from being worn on coats and sweaters, they can be worn on hats and handbags, or used as scarf pins.  They are also trendy for bridal bouquets and they come in a myriad of shapes and themes.
